Author B.J. Welborn
B.J. Welborn has authored two widely lauded, history-based travel books, America's Best Historic Sites: 101 Terrific Places To Take The Family (Chicago Review Press 1998) and Traveling Literary America, a comprehensive and unique guide released in September 2005 by Jefferson Press. Welborn also contributed to the two-volume Great American Trials (The Gale Group; 2nd edition, 2002).

During her 32-year career in journalism/communications, Welborn has written thousands of articles, many published in major daily newspapers and national magazines.  The author has been featured in such publications as USA Today, The Chicago Tribune, San Antonio Express, Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Charlotte Observer.  Welborn has been interviewed on National Public Radio’s “The Connection,” “NBC Nightside,” and Peter Greenberg’s syndicated radio show “Travel Today.” Dozens of radio shows throughout the country have produced pieces on Welborn’s books, reaching audiences nationwide.   

Welborn has worked on the news staffs of several newspapers, including The Charlotte Observer, The Fayetteville (N.C) Observer, the Wilmington (N.C.) Star-News, The Hickory (N.C.) Daily Record, The State (Columbia, S.C.) and The Acton Digest in suburban Boston, a magazine she edited and helped establish.


Welborn graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
